The Friday Five for 25 July 2008

Because I'm getting ready for a haircut and color job, this week's questions are brought to you by [info]destined_dreams, the letter F, and the number5...

Hair!

  1. What type of hair do you have? (Thin, Normal, Thick, Frizzy, etc.)
  2. What color is your hair currently?
  3. What colors have you dyed/highlighted your hair?
  4. If you could dye your hair any color, what would it be?
  5. What is your hair's length?
    (sic)

A Boy's Game

Is geocaching male by default?

We geocache as a family and use a team name. We geocache as a family because I wanted to geocache. I keep track of cache announcements, plan the find routes, maintain the hides and manage the correspondence. Our team name is our Groundspeak account username so it's also our Waymarking username. I'm the only waymarker in the family.

What does a geocacher comment for one of our hides?
"...and met the owner's wife..."

So, is geocaching male by default?

EDIT TO CLARIFY:
I'm not asking if there are women who geocache. Obviously, there are. I'm one of them. Heck, this post is me bitching about someone assuming I am just "the wife of the geocacher". I'm talking more about the social expectation or perception of geocaching by geocachers. The assumption that a woman is the wife of the geocacher instead of a geocacher. A few of you seemed to answer in a way that just seemed to tell me there are women who geocache, so I wanted to clarify my point of this post.

Friday Five -- July 18, 2008

This week's questions were suggested by [info]frieliegh.

1. If you could change one life-changing event in the life of someone important to you, would you?
2. Which do you think is easier to do, being friends for many years, or being life partners for many years?
3. Have you ever walked away from someone you considered a friend?
4. If you had to choose between telling the truth and hurting a friend or lying and making them happy, which would you choose?
5. Which would you rather hear--the truth which will hurt, or the comforting lie?

Ж-Men...but not the ones you might expect!
This week LJ Russia launched Ж-Men, a new comedy series about superheroes, inspired by the LJ communities dedicated to superheros, comics and cartoons. The title's "Ж" comes from ЖЖ, the nickname for LiveJournal in Russia.

Ж-Men's script is written by a group of LJ enthusiasts who also happen to be television professionals. Who knew? Following the premiere, five more episodes will be broadcast over the next two weeks. We hope you find the series fresh and enjoyable.

This is, of course, an experiment for LiveJournal. As always, we'd love to hear what you think!
